Happy Mardi Gras!

Yesterday was Mardi Gras – “Fat Tuesday” – the day before Ash Wednesday (and the start of Lent) when practicing Catholics, like my Mama have to fast. Mama has been stuffing herself with all kinds of good food, like donuts and hamburgers.

Since Mardi Gras is a holiday in my house, you know what that means . . .  Mama made me dress up.

Then, she put me a silly basket and clipped a fake flower thingy in my hair. She thinks it was so cute, but I don’t really agree. What do you think?

Seriously, Mama?

I put up with this because I love you.

Mardi Gras Shih Tzu Puppy

Do you remember Chanh, my Shih Tzu boyfriend from Nashville?

(Technically, he is my ex-boyfriend, since I am in love with Louie the Shih Tzu and Duncan the Westie. But Louie is my Twitter boyfriend. I am kind of a dog playa. I love all doggie boys. I just can’t help myself.)

Chanh is on “vacation” this week and staying with me. We are having lots of fun playing with each other. We enjoy playing tug-of-war and wrestling with one another.

Mama thinks it’s funny how she’ll throw a toy, and both of us will run after it in our Shih Tzu way. I’ll grab half of it, and Chanh will grab the other half. We trot towards Mama with the toy in both our mouths. She thinks it’s the cutest thing.

Hey, Gracie’s Mom… You do know I’m a boy, right? And purple is for girls!

Mardi Gras Beads and Cute Shih Tzu Dog

Yeah, I’m totally not happy with this purple bow in my hair. Not cool… Not cool at all.

I guess these golden beads aren’t so bad, but still. I look ridiculous. Not manly at all!

Santa Must Die

Christmas may be over, but Santa Clause must die!

Me and my stuffed Santa have beef with each other. Something about his red outfit, white beard, and soft insides just makes me go into destroy mode. I will bite and chew and shake him until I make a big enough hole. Then I attack.

The stuffing has got to go. I will gut him until there is nothing left.

What you looking at me for, Mama?

Mama always gets upset when she finds Santa’s guts strewn all over the room. She ends up sewing him back together again, and the destruction begins all over again.

I should probably also let you know that this is not original Santa.

This is “new” Santa. I just got him this Christmas. But it’s obvious that I will have to get a third Santa next Christmas time.

(P.S. The picture quality is not that great, cause I was moving around too much and we didn’t have great lighting in the room. It was late at night.)

Running Shih Tzu … Coming Your Way

There is really nothing cuter than a Shih Tzu that’s running your way. (And bravo to the photographers to catching these awesome moments.)

Look at the eager expression in this black and white Shih Tzu’s eyes. His teeth definitely show his mood, too. He’s super excited and happy, running around his backyard.

Bacon! I smell bacon!

True Love, Cuddles, and Face Licks

This is the story of true love, snuggles, and face licks.

The tale of how a black and white Shih Tzu puppy entered the life of a Vietnamese girl and lived happily ever after.

This is my story.

Since my Mama was a young child, she wanted a puppy. She asked her parents and babysitters to take her to animal shelters and pet stores to look at the puppies. Her sister was more interested in cats, but Mama just wanted a dog . . .  so badly.

Too bad, no one ever let her have a dog.

When Mama was a young child, she even pretended her stuffed animals were dogs that transformed into real life dogs when no one was looking. (How sad is that?!) Her “dogs” were named Romeo and Juliet, and they always came home after 9 p.m. That’s why they weren’t around during the daytime.

One day, when Mama was 25 and grown-up, she decided that she had to have a dog. A Shih Tzu, in particular. Her favorite dog breed. She did tinker with the idea of other dog breeds, but she just couldn’t tear herself away from the idea of a Shih Tzu puppy.

Everyone told her, “No, you can’t have a dog. You’re not ready for one. Dogs poop and pee, and they are a lot of responsibility.” But Mama was determined. She didn’t care. She needed a Shih Tzu to make her lifelong dream complete.

She searched online and in the newspaper. Then she saw this picture of me in the local newspaper.

Wasn’t I the cutest puppy ever?

She knew then that she had to have me! She emailed the family and arranged to visit their home. My dog parents were the family’s personal dogs – not a breeding facility, not a backyard breeder. Their dogs just happened to have puppies. My mom got to meet my dog parents and my siblings.

It was love at first sight when I was put in my mom’s arms. I was less than a pound and fit in the crook of her hand. (I actually could fit into the coffee holder of her car! That’s how tiny I was.)

Mom took me away from my doggie mom and dad on June 17, 2010. It was a Thursday, and I was barely 6 weeks old.

I was super adorable and very white!

Don’t you love my “Welcome Home” balloon behind us? Oh, and that’s a crate . . . that I only used for the first week of my life.

And of course, you know my Mama. It wasn’t long before Mama put me in a dress. In fact, it took her 3 days before she found a tiny dress that fit me.

This photo was taken June 20, 2010 – three days after I was brought home.

As I grew and Mama and I got more attached, our love grew and grew. As you can see (below) I was a face licker and big lover of snuggling from the start. There’s just nothing that tastes better than my Mama’s face. And back then, I had puppy breath, so my kisses were even more special.

Of course, the dressing up didn’t stop. Here is one of the first outfits from my wardrobe. The below picture was from July 20, 2010. I was 2 months old and dressed as a fireman.

Gorgeous Westie on Fall Leaves

I saw this super cute photo of a Westie on top of crisp, fall leaves and I couldn’t help but share. Isn’t he/she the sweetest Westie puppy you’ve ever seen?

Look at his/her gentle sweet eyes. How could you say “No” to anything that is so adorable and perfect? West Highland White Terriers – a.k.a. Westies – are one of the cutest dog breeds out there.

Hello, World. I’m listening.

Funny Dog Picture – “I Thought You Were Never Coming Home . . .”

Separation anxiety in dogs isn’t funny business . . . for dog owners, that is. When we have anxiety because our humans have left us, we tend to do bad things. Like destroy stuff. Chew things we’re not supposed to chew. Maybe do some peein’ and pooin’.

We have a good reason though…

“I thought you were never ever, ever, ever coming home ever . . . So I panicked . . . Forgive me?”

How can you NOT forgive those sweet, happy eyes? He is SO happy to see his human again!
