The Cutest Overbite

Do you remember that in September, I wrote about Gracie’s baby teeth falling out? She was indeed my little monster then, and she still is. But now her adult teeth are all in ( as you can see in the photo). She’s got huge chompers now, she has not stopped chewing and biting . . . but fortunately, she’s more interested in biting and playing with her toys than she is with the carpet.

When Gracie tries to close her mouth, she has the cutest little overbite. She can’t close her mouth without her bottom teeth showing. I read that it’s a defect and means she’s not “show quality,” but she is definitely my show dog. Adorable and cute 24/7 . . . and her agility is amazing. I can throw her favorite stuffed frog toy, and she’ll fetch and bring it back before I can blink an eye.

I’m loving her. She’s plenty of fun . . . but super hyper.

My Little Monster

Today, I will no longer count Gracie’s age in weeks. She is 4 months old exactly. Her birthday is May 8th, so today, she’s officially 4 months and growing up quite fast. Today, I will no longer count Gracie’s age in weeks. She is 4 months old exactly. Her birthday is May 8th, so today, she’s officially 4 months and growing up quite fast. At her last vet’s visit several weeks ago, she weighed five whopping pounds. Her size and weight have not changed much since that last visit, but I suspect she’s getting a little bigger every day, but not by much.

Doesn’t she look so innocent here (minus the weird red-eye. Sorry I have a bad camera)…

But Gracie is becoming quite the chewing monster recently. See her little teeth? She’s definitely teething! (sorry, I had to put my fingers in the middle to show them off to you.)

I try to discourage her from biting me, which doesn’t hurt at this point. I try to give her a toy whenever she does this, or give her a non-human object to chew on. I am sure I am not the best mother, because I do allow her to chew on blankets and my comforter — when it’s the middle of the night and she wants to play, while I want to sleep. But I’m a first-time dog owner, so I an entitled for little mistakes here and there.

But Gracie is quite a little biter. I had new pumps that I had accidently left on the ground. Not two minutes later, Gracie had discovered them and her little teeth had made dents in the heel. Yikes. I had to put those away. She has already destroyed an older pair of pumps. I am not sure what to do about her biting. She loves biting on everything — shoes, the carpet, rugs, etc.

I don’t know why. I give her plenty of toys to chew on and play with. I guess she just loves chewing. Oy.

She is also not potty trained but that’s for another post. Oh the joys of puppy-hood!

Here’s Gracie’s new haircut (another do-it-myself job, because I’m trying to save money).. and a photo of Gracie holding onto her rope tightly as she plays with her “auntie.”

Before I go into my story, I would like to re-introduce my cat to this blog. (I’ve blogged about him before, but just in case you forgot.) This is my flame-point Siamese – Mr. Pumpkin. He is very friendly, and about five years old. He basically came into my apartment as a stray, and kept [...]

Before I go into my story, I would like to re-introduce my cat to this blog. (I’ve blogged about him before, but just in case you forgot.) This is my flame-point Siamese – Mr. Pumpkin. He is very friendly, and about five years old. He basically came into my apartment as a stray, and kept returning. Eventually I discovered that he had no owner, so I decided to adopt him.

One of the reasons that I decided to get Gracie was because I thought Mr. Pumpkin was getting a bit lonely without a friend. I didn’t want to adopt another cat, and I have wanted a dog forever. And fortunately, Mr. Pumpkin gets along very well with his sister, though I think he gets annoyed with her sometimes. But whenever I am busy and can’t pay attention to Gracie, I always find her right by her big brother’s side.

They have the cutest ritual in the morning where Gracie barks at Mr. Pumpkin, and then they begin their chase. All over the house. Mr. Pumpkin will sometimes hide, or jump on top of something, and when Gracie comes along, he pounces on top of her for a brief second and jumps off. Then the chase continues. When Gracie doesn’t bark to play, Mr. Pumpkin will come over and meow at her to get her to chase him. And though Mr. Pumpkin still has his claws, he never takes them out. He is very gentle with his little sister. I am thrilled that the two of them have each other, and that they get along so well.

What I love about their relationship is that, sometimes, when I go into the garage to do laundry, Mr. Pumpkin will paw open the door and come towards me. And not too far behind is Gracie peeking her head in. Super cute!

So this past weekend, I was decorating a diaper cake for a friend’s baby shower. My first diaper cake ever. (I had to watch a lot of youtube videos and look at tons of pictures to figure out how to make one.) I placed a little mermaid on top as a finishing touch, and Pumpkin came over and just started pawing at the mermaid and topped her over…

Of course, my sweet Gracie couldn’t help but find some ribbon to play with. And Mr. Pumpkin followed suit.

(Sorry the lighting is not so great. I don’t have the best camera, or lights in my home. Though these photos were taken with my Droid’s camera.)

Now for some creepy…. check out Gracie with no eyes. 🙂 Her hair is getting a bit unruly.

Mama Gave me a Bad Haircut

Dear Blog Readers,
My sweet mama gave me a very bad haircut. She decided that she wanted to save money, so . . . instead of taking me to the groomer’s, she decided that she would take a pair of scissors and cut my hair. I was getting kind of raggedy-looking and no matter how often she brushed my hair, my hair was getting long and uncontrollable. And I am too fidgety these days to sit still. So along with the help of my Auntie, my very inexperienced hair cutting mama, decided to chop off some of my body and leg hair.
See…   This is how much hair they chopped off.
And as you can see my photo with Auntie… I just look like a rag-a-muffin and look 100 times worse after my so-called hair cut. Maybe mama will have to give up and take me to the groomers when my hair grows back out.
My new hair cut . . .
Aren’t I just super cute? Mama thinks I’m still adorable — at least my face is, even if my body looks choppy and unattractive. But fortunately, I still have my adorable hoodie to wear until my hair grows back.
Mama wants to  try to cut my hair . . . again, but with trimmers next time. Or one of those shavers for pets that you can buy at the pet store. Or maybe she will take me to the groomers. She is undecided. But for now, I am just going to look very ragged. But that’s OK with me.
Love,
Gracie Lu, the shih-tzu puppy

How Fast Gracie Has Grown!

Oh my goodness, I can hardly believe how fast my Gracie has grown up. Since I see her every day, I didn’t notice how quickly she was growing until this past weekend. Before I got her, I went out to the local pet store and went on a shopping spree of everything and anything I might need — crate, dog bed, toys, food, bowls, etc. I also bought her a few outfits.
She hasn’t been able to fit any of her outfits . . . until now. She used to be so teenie-tiny!!!
The “sweetie” hoodie outfit finally fits her. It makes her look very thin, and I think she’s simply adorable. I especially love placing the hoodie on her head. Too bad she doesn’t like it so much. Here is Gracie in her new outfit.
When I first got Gracie, she was 6 weeks old and less than 1 pound. Now, she’s 13 weeks old, and she’s a whopping 4 pounds! I’m just wowed at how big she’s getting! I’m guessing she’ll be around 7 or 8 pounds full-grown. But I still love her to pieces

An Awful Dog Finding Weekend

It was quite an eventful weekend for me. Friday afternoon, the lawn guy at my boyfriend’s house let his back gate open, and Jarold’s very feisty black lab, Bo, decided to have a little adventure. So as of Friday night, we had no idea where Bo was. Of course, Jarold was absolutely a mess. Bo is his buddy, his baby. I’ve never been a man so upset in my life. He didn’t even want to play with Gracie, because he felt that he was betraying Bo if he did. Poor guy.
See Bo’s photo below.
Saturday morning came and still no Bo. Jarold drove around the neighborhood for hours and hours, yelling out Bo’s name. No one knew where he went. Finally, I saw a Craigslist ad for a “Found Black Lab” with Bo’s photo. Thank goodness, we thought! So we contacted the man who posted the ad… but it turns out, Bo had escaped from his place. So the search continued.
We spent all of Saturday afternoon and evening in the search for Bo. I posted a classified ad in the newspaper, Craigslist posting for a lost Black Lab. Then, we went all over the neighborhood posting flyers. We probably printed over 200 flyers in the search for Bo. We put posters and flyers within a five-mile radius of Jarold’s house.
Fortunately, we received several phone calls from people who claimed to have spotted Bo. So we drove to those locations, but no Bo.
By Sunday, we were beginning to give up some hope. Bo had been gone for two days and we couldn’t find him at all. There were no phone calls on Sunday so we believed that something horrible that happened to him, or perhaps Bo had been dog-napped by something who found him and took him in. (Bo is a very friendly black lab).
But I have good news to report. We found Bo at the shelter on Monday. He ended up being taken to the country, where he escaped and was just running wild. The Animal Control people found him and brought him in. Luckily, Jarold called them on Monday afternoon and they told us that they had a black lab in custody.
We finally have Bo back, and let me tell you, he was EXHAUSTED from his trip. Jarold had Bo micro-chipped so hopefully this will never happen again. The poor guy lost his collar somewhere along the way.
But Gracie has her big brother back…. Here is Gracie in her newest outfit — a fireman outfit. Isn’t Gracie the fireman so cute?
