Introducing the Pikachu Kitty … Isn’t he adorable?

Does your dog hate bath time? (For that matter, do you?) A little bit of strategy and patience can turn around this sometimes-dreaded ritual. Plus, you’ll get better results for your efforts. Your dog will be cleaner, smell nicer, and will maintain those fabulous looks!

Make your dog’s bathing spot a fun place to be. Or at least one she doesn’t hate. Start by simply bringing your dog into the bathroom and rewarding her with treats. On another day, just run the bath water and reward her. Work your way up to a full bath over time. Check out the ASPCA’s in-depth instructions for more guidance.

Whether you’re new or familiar with bath time, offer rewards during and after the process. Give constant praise and the occasional biscuit. Better yet, make it a habit to take your pooch on a walk or other fun activity when her bathing and grooming is over. Set aside weekend mornings as your designated bath time, for instance.

Wash your dog from one end to the other. I suggest cleaning from tail-to-head. This way, you can be thorough and you’ll save the least favorite for last. Don’t apply shampoo directly to her head; soak it in water and rinse that on her noggin.

Avoid tangles by properly drying your dog. Start with a towel and incorporate a (human or dog) blow dryer on medium or low heat.

Get more out of your baths with regular brushing. Brushing helps remove dirt and dead skin, so do it once a week (less for short-haired dogs, more in some cases) and always right before baths. Personally, I’m a fan of the Furminator grooming brush.

Despite what you may see on some prank videos, bath time doesn’t need to be a fracas. Be strategic and you can avoid this:

This doggie (I think she is a Yorkie) must be the most tolerant, well-behaved dog in the entire world. I would never in a million years put up with all my fur piled up on top of my head. And I’m pretty sure she had doggie hairspray too. Yuck.

Not for me.

But it’s cute to look at!

I hope this lovely dog got lots of treats, tummy rubs, and playtime for putting up with such craziness!

Of course I have to walk around looking stylish. Mama found this cute red and green vest/harness combo in the bottom of my closet – Yes, I have my own little closet/wardrobe where my stuff is stored.

There’s a neighborhood playground that Mama and I walk by sometimes. The other day, Mama thought it would be fun to place me in the baby swing and swing me.

I loved it!!!!!

But only one of my paws went through the hole though. So I’m a one legged baby.

For being a good sport, I got lots of kisses and love from my mommy!

This was a really awesome dog museum that we highly recommend any dog lovers who are in the St. Louis area visit. You can take your doggie inside with you – it’s completely dog-friendly. Admission is only $5. It was well worth the trip. Lots of interesting artwork – from paintings to photographs to sculptures. The staff is also very sweet and friendly.

Lots of things to sniff outside, so I was not in the mood to pose.

It was amazingly clean and peaceful inside. Lots of wonderful pantings to see. There also plaques beside each piece of art, describing it and the name of the artist, and the year of its creation.

Let me give you a tour . . .

(And Mama says she apologizes that the photographs are crooked. She was holding me in my baby sling, while trying to take the photo. It was rather difficult.)

There was also a cool room that displayed the history of the St. Louis County Police K-9 Unit.

We liked that it wasn’t just German Shepherds who were police dogs, but Labradors too!

These are the dog badges of pups who served with the police force… 

We thought this war poster was pretty awesome.

This was a really cool display of the dogs who have won “Best in Show” at the Westminister over the years.

Check out the sleds that Alaskan Malamutes pulled… Isn’t it neat!
